4 Great Books for New Parents

Out of all the books I read when pregnant – these four have made it into a “worth recommending” category. They are all well researched and explain their chosen topics well. Ample examples and help tips are given.

Most importantly, they enable you to make your own informed decision of how you will care for your baby or parent your child.

11 Benefits of Babywearing

I have been wrapping my little girl since the first week of her life. Tightly enveloped by the woven wrap we caught the eye of many people and interest of passing parents. Soon I realised there is a need in Denmark to spread the goodness of babywearing.

So, last weekend I completed a professional consultancy course in the ClauWi® school of babywearing. Now, equipped with knowledge and refined tying techniques I am prepared to help other parents grow in confidence and skill to babywear themselves.

But why, you may ask, would anyone want to babywear in the first place?

Word of 2015: Season

Happy New Year!

The unwavering time urges us forward into yet another set of twelve months. I hope this one will bring positive lasting change in our lives. In other words I hope that we won’t just grow older, but grow up a little.

For many, first of January is the first test of their new year resolutions. To be successful those need to come with a plan and a heart that is ready for change. Often, they don’t and the resolution gets dusty and forgotten by the end of the month.

Maybe you can tell? I am not a big fan of New Year resolutions. Instead I pick one word to focus on for following 365 days.

Action Plans: Drifting

Due to the move and other life events I have been living a life away from my office and internet for a while. But it’s time to come back. =)

Reality Checks & Action Plans (28th July – 03rd Aug 2014)

God & Faith
I trust God, but too often still slip into “default” mode. There is much less fear in my life. It’s only when it really goes away that it becomes aparent how deep grip it had…

  • Scribble in green-book daily.

Self: Character
I’m drifting emotionally and mentally in past few days/weeks. Time to snap out of the vacation brain-dead mood and return to living fully.

  • Write to more friends.

Self: Body
Feeling pretty good all round – considering 39 week of pregnancy! I’ve been last ill in June (3 day cold). Eating and exercise are off the books at the moment.

  • Make a meal plan for next week.
  • Cook two more dishes this week to freeze.

Marriage
We have a good dynamic as a pair. We support each other, speak openly and promptly resolve misunderstandings. We brought back weekly dates and daily LVA + hugs.

  • Home-date this week.
  • Design family statement for the door.

Friends & Extended Family
I have a few friends scattered around the world, but lack a local friendly soul. I’m in good relations with my in-laws. I have a rather fragmented contact with my own parents.

  • Write to school friends.

Career & Talents
I recognise writing and composition as my Talents. After leaving the vfx life behind I am yet to start making an income. I have various plans for my home-business.

  • Write FAQ etc for Twinkle.

Finances
We have enough to live on and save. We are debt free, though we are about to sign our mortgage. We have five months emergency fund, and not a penny in pension fund.

  • Get clear on our house spendings on Sat.

Action Plan: Countdown

There is only 27 days remaining until we move.
They will fly by now, I think.

Time to get more intentional and focused. It would be great to wrap up some projects and ideas before the big move. =)

Reality Checks & Action Plans (19th-25th May 2014)

God & Faith
I trust God, but too often still slip into “default” mode. My views and expectations, fears and worries are transforming though. There is more peace in my life and it is becoming harder for day-to-day things to throw me off track.

  • Include Joy-Gifts in Action Plan
  • “Head-to-toe pictures”: mid-section
  • Restart the evening-journal

Self: Character
Joy and peace are shaping up in my heart. It is still hard to feel either at times, but my understanding of both has greatly increased. Patience, gratitude, self-control and kindness are all traits I still need to work on, as I still get easily disappointed with myself. I am generous with sharing my time and knowledge.

  • Write down and process thoughts on perspective.
  • Plan next self-date.

Self: Body
I respect more my body signals in regards to energy (need of sleep, relaxation). I’ve been last ill in January (cold); my allergy symptoms are very mild. My eating habits are returning to the good normal; restarted my meal-log. I started swimming again, but could use more active time.

  • Go to sleep earlier this week.
  • Go swimming again.

Marriage
We have a good dynamic as a pair. We support each other, speak openly and resolve misunderstandings on the same day. We brought back weekly dates and daily LVA + hugs.

  • Rethink free-time in the house.
  • Trial the in/out arrangement again?

Friends & Extended Family
I have a few friends scattered around the world, but lack a local friendly soul. I’m in good relations with my in-laws. I have a rather inconsistent contact with my own parents.

  • Write to parents
  • Make/give the remaining summer-party invites.

Career & Talents
I recognise writing and composition as my Talents. After leaving the vfx life behind I am yet to start making an income. I have various plans for my home-business.

  • Get another 3 posts ‘publish ready’
  • Design for Twinkle
  • 3h of proof reading the book

Finances
We have enough to live on and save. We are debt free, though we are about to sign our mortgage. We have five months emergency fund, and not a penny in pension fund.

  • Further research + price tags for Twinkle
  • Figure out cost of new stairs for the new house.
